Classroom Welfare
At Tenambit Public School we believe that:
- Student Welfare is the responsibility of all members of the school community
- High expectations, consistent standards and positive attitudes should always be encouraged
- Desired behaviours should be modelled by all
- All students have the right to learn and teachers have the right to teach
- Programs should be motivating and cater for a variety of learning styles and abilities
- Programs should enhance learning for all class members
Appropriate Behaviour
- Striving to do quality work
- Using appropriate language
- Sharing equipment, area, time
- Valuing individual differences
- Helping others
- Listening to peers
- Following instructions
- Regular attendance Inappropriate Behaviour
- Messy, rushed or incomplete work
- Inappropriate language
- Stealing / Vandalising equipment
- Bullying, teasing, put downs
- Fighting / intimidation
- Calling out / Disrespect to others
- Non compliance
- Non school attendance
Inappropriate behaviour may incur in the following consequences, depending on severity, frequency and context.
Counselling
Discussing a better alternate behaviour and choice.
Time-out
- The student is removed to a quiet area within the classroom – thinking chair, thinking castle.
- Table set aside facing the back of the wall or side wall away from the rest of the class
Buddy classroom Time-out
- Child is sent to buddy classroom (following the traffic light card system).
- Classroom incident form is filled out and given to supervisor.
- Supervisor will then discuss incident with child and decide on appropriate consequence.
- Parents may be notified by letter at this stage.
Student Support Program
Student placed on a support card and behaviour monitored regularly throughout the day. This is communicated to parents and signed at the end of each week.
Committee Referral
Student is referred for alternate classroom (In school suspension), counsellor referral, alternate arrangements (suspension may be an option at this stage).
Playground Welfare
At Tenambit Public School we believe that:

Appropriate Behaviour
- Being friendly
- Staying in the right area
- Using appropriate language
- Sharing equipment, area and time
- Valuing individual differences
- Helping others in need
Inappropriate Behaviour
Inappropriate behaviour may incur in the following consequences, depending on severity, frequency and context.
- Counselling - Discussing a better alternate behaviour and choice (name may be recorded on playground sheet)
- Time-out in playground - The student is removed to a quiet area in the playground to minimise risk or harm and to think about a better behaviour (Name is recorded on playground sheet)
- Playground incident report completed
- Referral to school Thinking Room for further follow-up
- Immediate removal from the playground - Child is removed from the playground by Executive Staff member for immediate counselling and follow-up as necessary
- Committee Referral - Child is considered for suspension in accordance with Department of Education policy
